This is a picture obtained through a 300mm telephoto lens and a Canon EOS 450d (Rebel XTi) DSLR camera on a EQ6 equatorial mount. The area exposed is near Merak, one bright star in Big Dipper constellation. M97 is the Owl nebula, an interesting planetary nebula of magnitude 11.2 with 2 dark spots inside like the eyes of an owl. Near M97 it is found another Messier object, the galaxy M108 of magnitude 10.1, showing an elliptical shape.
In the field of view there are a lot of small galaxies around magnitude 14 or higher, like NGC 3549, NGC 3594, NGC 3530, NGC 3517 and NGC 3499. I have found more fainter galaxies in the image, but I cannot find out their names and magnitude using Stellarium, but they are probably magnitude 16 or higher.
