This picture represents Comet Holmes also know as 17P/Holmes, as seen on 8th January, 2008. It was taken by Primož Cigler with a Canon EF 70-200 f/4.0 lens. Last time this comet passed near the Earth had an outburst and became very bright in the sky, visible to the naked eye. The brightest star to the left is Algol, beta Persei.
