A Sun or solar pillar is due to ice crystals reflecting the Sun light near the horizon.

The author of this image is Luc Arnold that belongs to Observatoire de Haute Provence (OHP). He used a lens set at 85 mm to catch the Sun pillar observed at OHP, from the 193 cm telescope dome on November 1999. This is a film photography shot with 24-85mm F:3.5-4.5 Canon USM zoom lens on a EOS 500n camera with Kodak Elite Chrome 100 ISO.
